Abstract:
Overall, the film industry practices descrimination widely. All aspects of film have a prodominently white population. My reasoning for writing this paper is because I am extremely passionate about film and I want to pursue it as my career. If this is something I want to pursue I want to know as much about the industry as I can.
Reflection:
My research shocked me in many ways. Right off the bat I knew that the film industry was already segregated. However, I was extremely shocked to find out that 99% of best director winners, 98.9% of best actress winners, and 93.2% of best actor winners were white. This topic is urgent to today’s society becuase it feeds systemic racism. When you look to the upper end of any field you want to see the absolute best in that area. If you look to the top of film and see only whites it not only promotes stronger white filmmakers but also puts African American filmmakers down. Researching and writing on this topic as a whole has made me open up my eyes more to the truths and reality of the career in which I want to pursue.
